The Albritton robotics coach and two team mentors attended the 6th Annual North Carolina FIRST Tech Challenge Coaches Institute Saturday, August 3rd, at Cardinal Gibbons High School. Dena Vassey, Albritton educational technologist and coach of the Albritton Build-dogs was excited to learn about the new FTC season with volunteer team mentors Dean Dibling, DoDEA instructional systems specialist for information centers, and Mike Deutschlander, an Army specialist with the Fort Bragg Airborne Innovation Lab. With three team attendees, the Albritton trio was able to participate in all available sessions. Ms. Vassey attended administrative meetings detailing procedural changes and expectations for the new season, while Mr. Dibling and SPC Deutschlander attended sessions on 3D printing, coding, and robot building. The experience allowed for networking, collaboration, and planning for the new season. The Albritton Build-dogs competed for the first time during the 2023-2024 season at an FTC qualifier in Smithfield, NC, earning 3rd place in the Connect category. The 2024-2025 season kicks off in September. Ms. Vassey is excited for the Build-dogs to compete in multiple events this year.
