Wednesday, April 2nd, was Paraprofessional Appreciation Day. In DoDEA, paraprofessionals are referred to as educational assistants or EAs. EAs play a crucial role in the daily operations and success of our schools. They keep our schools running smoothly, and they do it with a smile. At Albritton Middle School, we appreciate our educational assistants.

One of the primary roles of educational assistants is to support students with exceptional learning needs. This includes working with students who have special educational needs, language barriers, or those who require additional academic support. By providing one-on-one or small group instruction, paraprofessionals help ensure that all students have access to the curriculum and can achieve their full potential.

Educational assistants build strong, positive relationships with students. Their presence in the classroom provides students with additional role models and mentors. These relationships can be particularly beneficial for students in early adolescence, as this is a difficult age in which young people may struggle with social or behavioral issues. At Albritton, our EAs get to know our students, making a real difference in their lives.

Teachers often rely on paraprofessionals for support in delivering differentiated instruction. Paraprofessionals can assist in adapting lesson plans, providing additional resources, and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs). Their collaboration with teachers helps create a more dynamic and responsive educational experience for all students.

The role of educational assistants at Albritton is indispensable. They provide critical support that enhances the learning experience for students, aids teachers in their instructional duties, and contributes to a positive school environment. Recognizing and valuing the contributions of paraprofessionals is essential for the continued success and improvement of our educational systems. According to Dr. Judith Minor, Director for Student Excellence for DoDEA Americas, “Paraprofessionals are the steady support and skilled partners who make a difference for our students and teachers every single day.  Whether… working one-on-one with students, assisting in classrooms, or helping to create a safe environment, (their) role is essential to the success of our schools.”

Principal Kaawa Fulton treated the educational assistants to breakfast in recognition of their key role at Albritton Middle School.
