Cognia has completed its review of DoDEA's Mid-Atlantic District, including Albritton Middle School. Superintendent Ryan Smith congratulated the district's staff on its successful completion of the Cognia Accreditation visit, concluding with, "The Cognia team expressed a very positive impression of their visit, noting that despite significant changes over the past year, one constant remains: our commitment to delivering excellent instruction."

The Cognia team that reviewed Albritton Middle School provided an overview of their visit, which was overwhelmingly positive. Specific elements of praise included Albritton's:

  • Welcoming environment and hospitality
  • Care and attention of staff to students
  • Student politeness--greeting guests, opening doors, saying "excuse me"
  • Strong use of digital tools and technology for higher learning
  • Student collaboration (pairs/teams), which was strong throughout the school
  • Robust use of graphic organizers, claim-evidence-reasoning, and writing to form knowledge to reach deeper levels of learning
  • Well-managed environments, transitions, and time on task
  • Commitment to school improvement

Donna Mathern, a Cognia Lead Evaluator, offered these final words to the Albritton staff: "As we say in Cognia, continuous school improvement is a journey, and you're on the road for it. Congratulations to you and your school for all the hard work you're doing, and the impact that you're having on students. It's a great environment for kids to be in, and they will learn...thanks to you!"

Albritton has five years to continue the journey of school improvement before the review process happens again. In the meantime, we will keep working, and learning, and teaching, and improving.
