Alebrijes at Albritton

At the end of October/beginning of November, Spanish classes, taught by Beth Ilecki, embraced the vibrant culture of Mexico by learning about the significance and history of the holiday Día de los Muertos, and then diving into the colorful world of alebrijes. Although alebrijes have only been around for about 100 years, these Mexican folk art creatures will be displayed on some ofrendas during Dia de los Muertos. They have also become more popular since being included in the movie Coco. After exploring the history and meaning behind these colorful and whimsical creatures, students unleashed their creativity to craft their own mini alebrijes. Ms. Ilecki's classes often incorporate art into their learning of Spanish culture.
