The Bulldog Power Hour is Back!

Bulldog Power Hour Schedule New

After much discussion and feedback from staff and students, the Bulldog Power Hour (BPH) schedule has been revised. Albritton Middle School will roll out the new BPH schedule (pictured above) on Wednesday, September 18. During the Bulldog Power Hours, students will be organized into small groups and provided with extended learning opportunities, including targeted interventions and enrichment opportunities. By utilizing flexible grouping, the Bulldog Power Hours allow for increased engagement and more personalized instruction. Similar programs have been shown to close achievement gaps and improve academic performance. We look forward to the successful implementation of the Bulldog Power Hour into the Albritton Middle School culture this year.

September is Suicide Prevention Month. DoDEA is actively involved in Suicide Prevention activities and has a number of resources available to support students in crisis. In middle and high schools, students are encouraged to ACT: ACKNOWLEDGE the feelings of your friend, show them that you CARE, and TELL a trusted adult who can help. School staff are aware of the warning signs for suicidality. School psychologists, counselors, and nurses are trained in screening procedures for students with suicidal ideation and work with parents to help them receive necessary medical attention. Schools are prepared to ease students' re-entry at school following a crisis with an action plan tailored to their emotional needs.

Student Arrival to School

Walkers and car riders should not arrive on campus before 7:45 am and must enter the building near the car rider line by bridge. Currently, several students are arriving before 7:45 am and gathering on the bridge and near the bus area. School staff begin duty at 7:45 am, and we want to ensure students are supervised during this time. Therefore, we need your assistance to ensure your child/children arrive no earlier than 7:45 am.

Students purchasing breakfast from the cafeteria can arrive at 7:30 am and go directly to the cafeteria. Students cannot wait outside the bus area for the school day to begin. Adult supervision is available in the cafeteria to assist students who may need support while eating breakfast.

Please discuss with your child/children the importance of arriving at the appropriate time and entering campus near the car rider line by the bridge. Students should not be dropped off in the staff parking lot or enter near the bus area, unless they are eating a meal from the cafeteria.

Thank you for your support with student arrival procedures.

Bulldog Power Hour Assemblies

Ms. Fulton held assemblies with each grade level during our first Bulldog Power Hour sessions of the year. During the assemblies, Ms. Fulton reviewed the Standard Response Protocol system, the school handbook, the dress code, and Bulldog P.R.I.D.E. Students were also given the opportunity to provide feedback and interact during the sessions. Links to the handbook and dress code are provided.

News from the nurse

* 6th Grade Immunizations:

Two immunizations are required for all 6th graders: Tdap and meningococcal. Half of our sixth graders do not have proof of these immunizations at school. Please provide proof of your student’s immunizations by 9/19/24. Emails have been sent to all families of those who need these immunizations. Immunizations may be obtained at your clinic or at the Cumberland County Department of Public Health. Please let me know if you have questions about your child’s immunization status.

*Sports Tryouts and Sports Physicals:

Sports tryouts began last week. All students who tryout must have a current sports physical (less than a year old) on file to tryout. The DoDEA sport’s physical form is linked to the left, but we will accept any current sports physical. Please reach out to the nurse if you are unsure of the status of your student’s physical. Physicals may be obtained at your clinic or at an Urgent Care.

*Medications

Students are not permitted to carry medication at school, even over the counter medication such as Tylenol, without a physician’s prescription and parent permission. If your child needs medicine at school, please visit the Health Services page to complete the appropriate medication form.

Yours in good health,
Nurse Lopez
